Having private chats, looking at papers, etc., sounds heavenly, especially with the longer time for chat.

Caitlyn, welcome! It's too bad that you won't get to present right now but if the mitochondrial conferences are postponed, it sounds as though everyone else will be in the same boat--small comfort, though.undinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05589384016564587214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22001031.post-50792903564081731842021-03-16T12:17:30.881-07:002021-03-16T12:17:30.881-07:00I support the no conferences but I am also a littl...I support the no conferences but I am also a little bit bummed. I was looking forward to traveling and presenting my work for the first time at a mitochondrial conference but all the ones I know of have now been postponed until 2023. So I guess I will just never present my PhD work at a conference as I should graduate well before 2023. Oh well, I will hopefully get the opportunity in the future at the postdoc level. ...I am super happy about no travel. Ecstatic TBH.

Just had a program review meeting for a grant energy, and it was all it was supposed to be and nothing it wasn't. I didn't go overtime with my talk, because I was able to easily see my own phone during my talk; I could answer questions via chat for a few hours afterwards; I could private chat with colleagues who were interested in my work; I could take select screenshots of people's slides so I can look at their papers later. It was glorious! And I didn't have to sit in uncomfortable conference rooms, with poor internet and arctic temperature.

Heaven!

I've already pretty much discontinued all travel abroad except for one particular conferences of my small community, which I attend no matter what. The big ones? F*ck 'em. I may send students, who are still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed about travel.

xykademiqzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18306861394466282929noreply@blogger.com
